AnaGain

INCIPisum Sativum (Pea) Sprout Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Aqua/Water

The pea sprout extract that wakes dormant follicles. From Mibelle Biochemistry, Switzerland. Peer reviewed published study, food derived, vegan.

What you need to know

🌱

What it is

Standardised extract of organic pea sprouts (Pisum sativum). The seedlings of common garden peas, harvested at peak growth signal concentration.

What it does

Boosts FGF7 by 56% and noggin by 85%. Two protein signals that release the brake on resting hair follicles and pull them back into growth.

Best for

Diffuse thinning, telogen effluvium, post pregnancy shedding, seasonal shedding. Vegan, food derived, suitable for sensitive scalps.

⏱️

Time to results

Reduced shedding noticeable by week 4. Significant improvement at day 56 in oral form. Topical: judge at month 3.

How it actually works

Hair follicles cycle through growth (anagen), transition (catagen) and rest (telogen) phases. AnaGain targets the protein signals that tell follicles to wake from rest.

🔬

FGF7 +56%

Fibroblast growth factor 7 is one of the most important "wake up" signals for dermal papilla cells at the base of each follicle. AnaGain measurably boosts it.

🚫

Noggin +85%

Noggin blocks BMP, a different protein that keeps follicles dormant. By boosting noggin, AnaGain releases the brake so follicles can move from telogen back into anagen.

What the clinical data shows

Mibelle has published two complementary trials. A 2019 oral study in Phytotherapy Research (21 volunteers, 100mg daily for 8 weeks) measured hair shedding. A separate mechanism study (2% topical applied to the scalp, 10 volunteers) measured gene expression in scalp tissue. Across both:

Hair fall

Significant reduction by day 28 in the oral trial (2019)

FGF7
+56%

scalp gene expression, topical mechanism study

Noggin
+85%

scalp gene expression, topical mechanism study

Side effects

adverse effects reported across both studies

Why this matters AnaGain has the strongest evidence base of any cosmetic hair growth active we use. Published in a peer reviewed journal, with the mechanism confirmed both in lab work and in human trials. That's a higher bar than most ingredients clear.

AnaGain vs the alternatives

vs Minoxidil

Minoxidil has stronger absolute results, but causes initial shedding and requires twice daily commitment forever. AnaGain is gentler with no shedding cycle, but smaller absolute regrowth.

Different mechanisms. Redensyl wakes up stem cells, AnaGain releases the brake on dormant follicles. Stack both for combined effect.

AnaGain has the edge of a peer reviewed published study. Different mechanisms. Baicapil hits Wnt and β-catenin, AnaGain hits FGF7 and noggin growth factors.

vs Biotin

Biotin only helps if you're deficient (rare). AnaGain works on people with normal nutrition. Different mechanism entirely.

Side effects and how to use

Side effect profile of the active No adverse effects reported across topical or oral clinical work on the pea sprout active. Suitable for sensitive scalps, vegan, cruelty free, considered safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding (check with your doctor for personal advice).
About the standard formulation Mibelle's standard AnaGain liquid contains phenoxyethanol and sodium benzoate as preservatives. Both are widely used in cosmetics and considered safe at standard concentrations. If you avoid synthetic preservatives, two cleaner versions exist: AnaGain pf (preservative free, alcohol based) and AnaGain pwd (powder, isomalt carrier).
How to use Apply topically to the scalp twice daily. Massage 30 to 60 seconds, leave on. Stack with other hair growth actives. They work synergistically.

Common questions

What's the difference between AnaGain and AnaGain Nu?

Same biology, different delivery. AnaGain is the topical version (used in serums and shampoos). AnaGain Nu is the oral supplement form (100mg daily). Our Hair Thrivee+ uses topical AnaGain at 3%.

Are there different versions of AnaGain?

Yes. Mibelle sells three. The standard liquid version uses phenoxyethanol and sodium benzoate as preservatives (the most common in commercial products). AnaGain pf is a preservative free version using alcohol as the carrier. AnaGain pwd is a 2x concentrated powder using isomalt. The active pea sprout extract is identical across all three.

How long until I see results?

Reduced shedding usually shows up around weeks 4 to 6. Visible regrowth follows at month 3 onwards. The hair cycle takes 3 to 6 months to fully turn over. Patience matters.

Can I combine AnaGain with minoxidil?

Yes. They work through different mechanisms. Apply AnaGain first, let it absorb, then apply minoxidil if you're using both.

Is it safe if I have a pea allergy?

Anyone with a documented pea allergy should avoid AnaGain. Patch test first if you have any legume allergies. Topical reactions to processed pea extracts are rare but possible.

Why pea sprouts and not the peas themselves?

Sprouts are harvested at the developmental stage when growth signalling compounds peak. The mature pea has different (and lower) levels of these actives.
