A patented blend of three botanicals: baicalin (from Chinese skullcap), soy isoflavones, and wheat sprout extract. Developed by Provital, Spain.
What it does
Activates Wnt and Ī²-catenin signalling in dermal papilla cells. Induces telomerase. Upregulates IGF1 and VEGF growth factors.
Best for
Telogen effluvium, diffuse age related thinning, anyone preferring botanical actives, stacking with other gentle ingredients.
Avoid if
You have a soy or wheat allergy. Both are part of the blend. Always check the full ingredient list before applying.
How it actually works
Baicapil's three botanical components target different parts of the hair growth signalling network.
Baicalin ā Wnt pathway
The flavonoid from Chinese skullcap stimulates Wnt3a, Wnt5a and disheveled 2. The master regulators that move follicles into anagen growth.
Soy isoflavones ā DHT
Mild oestrogenic activity helps counter the DHT driven mechanism behind androgenetic thinning. Anti androgen effect is gentle, not pharmaceutical strength.
Wheat sprouts ā nutrients
Provides amino acids, peptides, and growth factors. Once a follicle is awakened, it needs the building blocks to actually produce hair.
What the clinical data shows
From Provital's 6 month clinical trial of a Baicapil containing product:

Secondary sources do not agree on the trial
If you read around, the same study gets described two different ways. Some write ups say 61 volunteers over three months. Others say 60 volunteers aged 18 to 60 over six months, double blind and placebo controlled. Both versions quote the same +22% density figure. We cannot reconcile that from anything published, because the primary write up is a conference presentation rather than a journal paper, so the protocol is not open to inspection. Take the design details you read anywhere, including here, with that in mind.
What is actually in Baicapil
Baicapil is a trade name for a pre made liquid blend, not a single molecule. This is the supplier's published composition, with the concentration band for each component as a share of the raw material. Most pages that discuss Baicapil list the botanicals and stop there, which hides the thing that matters most.

Baicapil vs the alternatives
Minoxidil has dramatically more clinical data and stronger absolute results. Baicapil is gentler with no shedding cycle, but evidence is weaker.
Redensyl has slightly stronger evidence (independent published studies). Different mechanisms, no overlap. They complement each other.
AnaGain has the strongest evidence (peer reviewed published study). Different mechanism. AnaGain hits FGF7 and noggin, Baicapil hits Wnt and Ī²-catenin.

Side effects and how to use
Baicapil in Singapore and Malaysia
Baicapil is a supplier ingredient, so you cannot buy it on its own at retail. You buy a finished product that contains it. In Singapore the realistic options sit in three brackets, and the label percentage is the only honest way to compare them.

Singapore listings checked 18 September 2026. Marketplace prices move, so treat the two "varies" rows as a pointer, not a quote.
Two things fall out of that table. First, the gap between 2% and 4% is narrower than the price gap: the 4% option costs more than double our 3% one for a third more raw material. Second, almost every serum on this list stacks Baicapil with Redensyl and AnaGain rather than running it alone, which tells you how the formulators themselves rate it. Nobody builds a hair serum on Baicapil by itself.
Malaysia. There is no dedicated Baicapil shelf on Shopee MY or Lazada MY. What you find are imported Indian and Korean growth serums listing it in a stack, with the percentage often missing from the listing entirely. If the listing will not tell you the percentage, assume it is low. Cross border shipping from Singapore is usually the more transparent route.

Common questions
What concentration of Baicapil actually works?
Provital recommends 2 to 4% in finished formulations. Our Hair Thrivee+ uses 3%, the upper middle of the range. Remember that the percentage refers to the blend, not to baicalin. See the INCI table above for what that works out to.
How much baicalin am I actually getting?
Very little, and that is normal. Scutellaria baicalensis root extract is 0.45 to 0.75% of the Baicapil raw material. In a serum dosed at 3% Baicapil, that lands around 0.014 to 0.023% of the finished bottle. Cosmetic actives routinely work at those levels, but it is worth knowing before anyone sells you Baicapil as a minoxidil replacement.
Why do some Singapore sellers claim 59% denser hair?
We do not know, and we would like to. Provital's own published density figure is +22%. A Singapore retailer markets a Baicapil 4% serum on a "59% denser hair" line. The ā60% hair loss half of that claim matches Provital's ā60.6%, so the two claims appear to come from the same study, but the 59% does not match any density number the manufacturer publishes. It could be a different endpoint or a responder rate. Until someone shows the protocol, treat +22% as the defensible number.
Is Baicapil halal, vegan and COSMOS approved?
Provital certifies the raw material as Halal, vegan compliant, COSMOS approved, non GMO and TSE/BSE free. That covers the ingredient, not the finished product. A serum can contain a halal certified ingredient and still not be halal certified itself, so check the bottle if this is the deciding factor for you.
How long until I see results?
Like all gentle hair actives, judge results at month 3 minimum. Reduced shedding usually shows up first (around weeks 4 to 6), with regrowth following.
Is the soy content a problem for hormone sensitive conditions?
Topical application means very low systemic absorption, far below dietary soy intake. If you have specific oestrogen sensitive concerns, consult your doctor before any product containing soy.
What is Chinese skullcap and is it safe?
Scutellaria baicalensis has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. The standardised baicalin extract used in cosmetics has a clean topical safety record. Different from American skullcap, which is a different species.
Why is the evidence weaker than for AnaGain or Redensyl?
The headline numbers come from Provital's own conference presented study, not peer reviewed publications. The underlying mechanism is supported by independent peer reviewed work, but the consumer facing efficacy claims rest on industry data.
What's propanediol doing in the INCI?
Propanediol is the main solvent in Baicapil's standard formulation (35 to 55% of the product). It's a plant derived alternative to propylene glycol, generally well tolerated, and helps the actives penetrate the scalp.
